Early Life

Harry Truman was born in a small-town called Lamar in Missouri. He was only 6 when he and his family moved to Grandview, Missouri. He went to school at Independence and went there until he graduated high school. His name is kind of an interesting story, he was named Harry after his uncle but it was his middle name that caused trouble. Both of grandfathers wanted it to be after him, so they had to compromise on S. no middle name just the initial S. Harry Truman wore glasses starting at the young age of 8.

Harry Truman had an interesting life before he was in office. Bess Wallace who Harry wanted to marry, rejected a marriage proposal before he married her. He worked many jobs before starting politics. He worked in a mailroom and was a bookeeper in two banks he also worked at a construction company. He was a soldier in WW1. Truman grew in ranks and became the rank of captain.

Harry Truman was originally the vice president for president Roosevelt, but he became president after Roosevelt died. He was only the vice president for 82 days. He took his oath at 7:09 pm on April 12 1945. When he became president the plans for the United Nation had just begun. During his presidency he had to make some very difficult decisions, like ordering to drop an Atomic bomb on August 6 and 9, 1945. The Germans surrendered on May 7, 1945 but they still had to deal with the Japanese. Soon Japan surrendered on September 2, 1945. Later Harry said sending troops to South Korea was the hardest choice he had to make during his political career. Also, he often lasher out at people who opposed him, this caused General Douglas MacArthur to get himself dismissed by him. Interestingly enough WW2 ended on his 61 birthday. His vice president was Alben William Barkley.

After Presidency

President Truman left office on January 20, 1953. His friends collected funds to build a library called Harry S. Truman in Independence. After he left office he lived for another 19 years and he and his wife returned to his hometown called Independence, Missouri. He died of severe lung congestion which was caused because he had pneumonia. Died on December 26, 1972 at the old age of 88.
