Johnson's father was Jacob Johnson and his mother was Mary McDonogh-Johnson. His father had died when Johnson was three of pneumonia. Jonhson had an older brother, and no other siblings. His mother did not educate him, and he did not go to school.At the age of thirteen he was apprenticed to a tailor,after two years he ran away.
Johnson married on May 17,1827. His job before presidency was a tailor he built his own tailoring business. His wife had taught him simple education. Johnson had three sons. One had developed tuberculosis, one was an alcoholic, and one died from a horse accident. In 1834, he became mayor. The next year he got on the House of Representatives, two years later he was fired off the House of Representatives. In 1839, he was let back on the House of Representatives.
Johnson was fifty-six years old when he had his inauguration Johnson became president in 1829.He was the first president to ever be impeached. While he had newly been elected as president, he had kept president Lincoln's Cabinet. In 1868, there was a complete pass for all the southerners in the Civil War that were still unpardoned. Johnson violated the Tenture of Office Act, that was why he was impeached.his impeachment was from March thirteenth to May twenty-six.he was a champion to small white farmers.As a president he vetoed things so much that his nickname was the veto president.in 1839 he was back on the house seat. Soon in 1841 his district chose him for state senate.
In 1834 he became the mayor.In 1869, Johnson ran for US. senate, but lost closly by two votes. He thought bribery would indues two state legislators In 1872, he ran for the U.S House of Representatives, but he lost. Johnson died of a paralytic stroke on July 31, 1875.He remained interested in politics.He was buried in Greenville and was wrapped in an American flag, with a copy of the Constitution under his head.
